I love Practical Magic. I watch it every fall (more than once). I even made a line of candles based on it and sold them in my Etsy shop. I swear that if I ever get married or have a commitment ceremony of any kind…it will be Practical Magic themed.
Shockingly (to me, anyway), I had never read the books—until now. I’m reading them in chronological order. I started with Magic Lessons and learned all about Maria Owens (where the curse began), then moved on to The Rules of Magic, where you meet the aunts from the movie. I adore them, and learning about their history is going to make this year’s rewatch feel like I know secrets. Like I’m in the coven.
Tomorrow (only because I’m committed to finishing Accomplice to the Villain!) I’m going to start the main event, Practical Magic. And then, dear readers, the last book: The Book of Magic. Now, you may have heard that Practical Magic 2 is coming out next year—for which I am swooning! That movie is based on this fourth and final book. Honestly, I think I’ve picked the perfect time to make my way through this series.

Scary shit. That about sums it up. I watched the first five Final Destination movies over the last few weeks so that I can watch the newest one (probably happening tonight). I’d only ever seen the first two.
To be fair, these aren’t the kind of movies you need to rewatch for context. They’re basically all the same: different characters, different ways to…unalive, same plot.

There’s still a lot of baking happening, but I’ve also started working on my book nook project. If you don’t know what a book nook is—it’s a miniature craft project that sits among your books on a shelf. Mine lights up and will eventually look like an alley in Japan. If it ever gets completed, that is. Each piece is so tiny, and it’s taking forever. But we persist.
That’s all for this month, friends. What are you currently up to?
I did manage to wait until the very end of the month to put up Halloween decorations—that’s the best I could do. I’m enjoying the crisp, foggy mornings and the afternoon sunshine (with a few rainy days sprinkled in). Yesterday, I even caught a gorgeous rainbow as the sun came back out from behind the storm clouds.
I’ve had to kick the heat on a couple of times, and Knox and I have managed a nap or two under my favorite cozy blanket. It’s fall, y’all—and I couldn’t be happier.
